Canyon Cares would like to thank the Coal Creek Canyon, Nederland and rural Gilpin County communities for all the donations (food and monetary) and help with the Holiday Baskets that were successfully distributed December 8th, 2018! A special shout out goes to United Power for their very generous donation of $5,000 (that is where a portion of your round up money goes to locally, folks!) and to the Coal Creek Canyon K8, with the winners of the Holiday Food Drive Contest going to the 5th graders! A big Thank You to the Arvada Community Table to for their large food donation, too.
The holiday baskets were assembled on December 6th, with the help of Pack 51 members and families, Canyon Cares board members (past and present), community youth volunteers: Mia and Evan Manniko, Jonas and Erik Kahila, and the Lawson Family. Thank you to Thomas Drouillard for providing 15 pizzas for all to enjoy before the sorting chaos ensued.
Approximately 60 baskets, that included (for almost all the baskets): canned and dry goods in new, reusable white laundry baskets, a small ham or turkey (donated, again, by a couple of anonymous angels in CCC), gift cards, fleece blankets, and handmade cards from the kids at the CCC K8. Snacks were set out for folks when they picked their baskets up and additional household and personal items were available for them to peruse. With holiday music and cheerful volunteers like Eleyna Jack, Dennis and Rhonda Akins, Dave Schemel, Todd Fletcher and many more, the spirit of giving and caring was all around. Thank you all for a very successful event and may your holidays be joyous and bright! Have a Very Happy New Year!
